Nanay Lucing! ( Western Visayas Culture and Tradition) Binukot's daughter
Binukot is a word for confinement, seclusion, or restriction. The root word Bukot means be blanketing, swaddling of oneself. This was a pre-hispanic exercise which still exist up to this day in some part of the country. Nanay Lucing, was one of the daughters of the Binukot, her mother was obviously a Binukot, but nanay Lucing however was not in her time. She is a wife of GAMABA awardee Federcio Caballero, a prominent chanter of Sugidanon. Federico Caballero or Tatay Pedring, is a Sulod-Bukidnon epic chanter from Kalinog, Iloilo.
I was wearing a scarf made by Nanay Lucing. She tied it on my head before we took a photo. I was proud of this moment having a pose with her. This scarf cost some hundreds yet the embroidery, and the effort is more than a thousands or more.
We tried to asked Nanay Lucing to perform a traditional dance, and she did not refused which gave us a feeling of being honored.
